Welcome to the Sointula Recreation Association Website
The Sointula Recreation Association is an organization run by a volunteer Board of Directors and Board Members devoted to maintaining our amazing town's morale and well being by recreation. What this means is that we encourage our community to have fun and get involved. From sponsoring dances to ball tournaments, and various other community functions, all in the spirit of community participation and a sense of pride for our very special spot on this planet.
We maintain a number of properties on the "island" (Malcolm Island that is) like the Upper Recreation Hall (or Finnish Organization Hall - F.O. Hall - as its most commonly known), the Athletic Hall (or Fire Hall as its most commonly known), the Fitness Centre, the Dance Studio, and the "Old Medical Clinic". These facilities are available for rent and have hosted a number of activities from the most recently successful "Culture Shock" Symposium to weddings, dances, meetings, Christmas parties and whatever function requires facilities like these.
Each facility has its own unique space so please have a look at our "Facilities" page for more details.
As we are a non-profit organization (and it takes quite a lot of funds to maintain each facility) we rely on the good citizens of our community to make donations. We do some fundraising in a number of ways (which you can see on our "Fundraising" page) and also sponsor a number of events in town such as the May Long Weekend Ball Tournament, Sointula Salmon Days, and CasinoNight.
Our most recent project has been the restoration of the Finnish Organization Hall. This project was 10 plus years in the making and we are extremely proud of the results. Maintaining our communities heritage is extremely important to us.
The Sointula Recreation Association is also mandated to distribute any funds specific to recreation in our community by The Regional District of Mount Waddington. This has been a long standing and good relationship and we are grateful for their confidence and support.
Our meetings are open to the public so we invited you to join us. We have a calendar of events which lists the upcoming meetings which are usually held at the "Old Medical Clinic". Please feel free to contact us if there are any items you would like to see added to our agenda.
Hope to see you around town!
